In 2024, NASA will launch a robotic mission, Europa Clipper, to image and explore the icy moon of Jupiter, Europa. Prior to this mission, NASA’s Galileo mission (1989 – 2003) discovered the abundance of liquid water under the icy crust. NASA is also developing the technologies to robotically land on Europa, deploy an in-situ rover and a sampling system to analyze the composition of the surface. Moreover, JPL is developing technologies and instruments to uniquely detect in-situ signatures of life on the surface of Europa.
